अष्टावक्र - गीता का जन्म

जनक ने एक धर्म - सभा बुलाई थी। उसमें बड़े—बड़े पंडित आए। उसमें अष्टावक्र के पिता भी गए। अष्टावक्र आठ जगह से टेढ़ा था, इसलिए नाम पड़ा था अष्टावक्र। दोपहर हो गई। अष्टावक्र की मां ने कहा कि तेरे पिता लौटे नहीं, भूख लगती होगी, तू जाकर उनको बुला ला।
अष्टावक्र गया। धर्म—सभा चल रही थी, विवाद चल रहा था। अष्टावक्र अंदर गया। उसको आठ जगह से टेढ़ा देख कर सारे पंडितजन हंसने लगे। सब को हंसते देख कर.... यहाँ तक कि जनक को भी हंसी आ गई।
मगर एकदम से धक्का लगा, क्योंकि अष्टावक्र बीच दरबार में खड़ा होकर इतने जोर से खिलखिलाया कि जितने लोग हंस रहे थे सब एक सकते में आ गए और चुप हो गए। जनक ने पूछा कि मेरे भाई, सब क्यों हंस रहे थे, वह तो मुझे मालूम है, मगर तुम क्यों हंसे?
उसने कहा मैं इसलिए हंसा कि ये चमार बैठ कर यहां क्या कर रहे हैं!
मेरा शरीर आठ जगह से टेढ़ा है, इनको शरीर ही दिखाई पड़ता है। ये सब चमार इकट्ठे कर लिए हैं और इनसे धर्म - सभा हो रही है और ब्रह्मज्ञान की चर्चा हो रही है? इनको अभी आत्मा दिखाई नहीं पड़ती। है कोई यहां जिसको मेरी आत्मा दिखाई पड़ती हो? क्योंकि आत्मा तो एक भी जगह से टेढ़ी नहीं है।
वहां एक भी नहीं था। कहते हैं, जनक ने उठ कर अष्टावक्र के पैर छुए। और कहा कि आप मुझे उपदेश दें। इस तरह अष्टावक्र - गीता का जन्म हुआ।
और अष्टावक्र - गीता भारत के ग्रंथों में अद्वितीय है। श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता से भी एक दर्जा ऊपर!
इसलिए श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता को मैंने गीता कहा है और अष्टावक्र - गीता को महागीता कहा है।

सम्पूर्ण जीवन का सिर्फ़ एक मंत्र : ॐ
और वह एक बाहर नहीं है, भीतर है।
कमरे को बिलकुल खाली रखो। जितना शून्य हो, उतना अच्छा है; क्योंकि इसी शून्य की भीतर तलाश है। कमरा छोटा हो, क्योंकि मंत्र में उसका उपयोग है; और खाली हो, उसका भी उपयोग है। आंख आधी खुली रखना; आधा संसार की तरफ बंद और आधा अपनी तरफ खुले, आधी आंख खुले होने का यही अर्थ है कि आधा संसार देख रहे हैं, आधा अपने को।
अपनी नाक के शीर्ष भाग को देखते रहना। बस, उतनी ही आंख खोलनी है। अब ॐ का पाठ जोर से शुरू करना - शरीर से, क्योंकि शरीर में तुम हो। तो जोर से ॐ की ध्वनि करना कि कमरे की दीवालों से टकराकर तुम पर गिरने लगे। इसलिए खाली जरूरी है। खाली होगी तो प्रतिध्वनि होगी। जितनी प्रतिध्वनि हो उतनी लाभ की है।
जोर से ॐ..ॐ... जितने जोर से कर सको; क्योंकि शरीर का उपयोग करना है। ऐसा लगने लगे कि तुमने अपनी पूरी जीवन - ऊर्जा ॐ में लगा दी है। इससे कम में मंत्र नहीं होता। दांव पर लगा देना - जैसे सिंहनाद होने लगे। आधी आंख खुली, आधी बंद, जोर से ओम का पाठ।
इतने जल्दी - जल्दी ॐ कहना कि ओवरलैपिंग हो जाये। एक मंत्र - उच्चार के ऊपर दूसरा मंत्र - उच्चार हो जाये। दो ॐ के बीच जगह मत छोडना। सारी ताकत लगा देना। थोड़े ही दिनों में तुम पाओगे कि पूरा कक्ष ॐ से भर गया। तुम पाओगे कि पूरा कक्ष तुम्हें साथ दे रहा है; ध्वनि लौट रही है। अगर तुम कोई गोल कक्ष खोज पाओ तो ज्यादा आसान होगा।
जब चारों तरफ से ओंकार तुम पर बरसने लगेगा, लौटने लगेगा तुम्हारी ध्वनि वर्तुलाकार हो जायेगी, तुम पाओगे कि शरीर का रोआं - रोआं प्रसन्न हो रहा है; रोएं रोएं से रोग झड़ रहा है; शांति, स्वास्थ्य प्रगाढ हो रहा है। तुम हैरान होकर पाओगे कि तुम्हारे शरीर की बहुत - सी तकलीफें अपने - आप खो गयीं।
शरीर ध्वनि का ही जोड़ है। और ओंकार से अद्भुत ध्वनि नहीं। यह दस मिनट ओंकार का उच्चार जोर से, शरीर के माध्यम से, फिर आंख बंद कर लेना, ओंठ बंद कर लेना, जीभ तालू से लग जाए, इस तरह मुंह बंद कर लेना। क्योंकि अब जीभ या ओंठ का उपयोग नहीं करना है।
दूसरा कदम है, दस मिनिट तक अब ॐ का उच्चारण करना भीतर मन में। अभी तक कक्ष था चारों तरफ, अब शरीर है चारों तरफ। दूसरे दस मिनिट में अब तुम अपने भीतर मन में ही गुजारना। ओंठ का, जीभ का, कण्ठ का कोई उपयोग न करना। तीव्रता वही रखना। जैसे तुमने कमरे को भर दिया था ओंकार से, ऐसे ही अब शरीर को भीतर से भर देना ओंकार से - कि शरीर के भीतर ही कंपन होने लगे, ॐ दोहरने लगे, पैर से लेकर सिर तक। और इतनी तेजी से यह ओम करना है, जितनी तेजी से तुम कर सको और दो ॐ के बीच जरा भी जगह मत छोड़ना क्योंकि मन का एक नियम है कि वह एक साथ दो विचार नहीं कर सकता।
ध्यान रखना, शरीर का उपयोग नहीं करना है इसमें। आंख इसलिए अब बंद कर ली। शरीर थिर है। मन में ही गज करनी है। शरीर से ही टकराकर गज मन पर वापस गिरेगी, जैसे कमरे से टकराकर शरीर पर गिर रही थी। उससे शरीर शुद्ध हुआ; इससे मन शुद्ध होगा। और जैसे—जैसे गज गहन होने लगेगी, तुम पाओगे कि मन विसर्जित होने लगा। एक गहन शांति, जैसी तुमने कभी नहीं जानी, उसका स्वाद मिलना शुरू हो जायेगा।
दस मिनिट तक तुम भीतर गुंजार करना। दस मिनिट के बाद गर्दन झुका लेना कि तुम्हारी दाढी छाती को छूने लगे।
तीसरे चरण में दाढ़ी छूने लगे; जैसे गर्दन कट गयी, उसमें कोई जान न रही। और अब तुम मन में भी गुंजार मत करना ॐ का। अब तुम सुनने की कोशिश करना; जैसे ओंकार हो ही रहा है, तुम सिर्फ सुननेवाले हो, करनेवाले नहीं। क्योंकि मन के बाहर तभी जा सकोगे, जब कर्ता छूट जायेगा। अब तुम साक्षी हो जाना। अब तुम गर्दन झुकाकर यह कोशिश करना कि भीतर ओंकार चल रहा है।
अब तुम सुनने की कोशिश करना। अभी तक तुम मंत्र का उच्चार कर रहे थे; अब तुम मंत्र के साक्षी बनने की कोशिश करना। और तुम चकित होओगे कि तुम पाओगे कि भीतर सूक्ष्म उच्चार चल रहा है। वह ॐ जैसा है ठीक ॐ नहीं है। तुम अगर शांति से सुनोगे तो अब वह तुम्हें सुनायी पड़ेगा।
पहले मंत्र के प्रयोग ने तुम्हें शरीर से काट दिया। दूसरे मंत्र के प्रयोग ने तुम्हें मन से काट दिया। अब तीसरा मंत्र का प्रयोग साक्षी - भाव का है।
और इसलिए ओंकार से अद्भुत कोई मंत्र नहीं है। ॐ से अद्भुत कोई मंत्र नहीं है। ॐ अरूप है। ॐ बिलकुल अर्थहीन है। ओम बड़ा अनूठा है। यह वर्णमाला का हिस्सा भी नहीं है। और यह निकटतम है उस ध्वनि के, जो भीतर सतत चल रही है; जो तुम्हारे जीवन का स्वभाव है।
तुम्हारा होना ही इस ढंग का है कि उसमें ॐ गूँज रहा है। वह तुम्हारे होने की ध्वनि है -- 'दि साऊंड ऑफ यूअर बीइंग।’

स्व को खोकर ही उसकी प्राप्ति सम्भव

परमात्मा की खोज में, अंततः वह सौभाग्य की घड़ी भी आ जाती है जब परमात्मा तो मिल जाता है, लेकिन खोजने वाला खो जाता है। जो निकला था खोजने, उसकी तो रूपरेखा भी नहीं बचती; और जिसे खोजने निकला था, जिसकी रूपरेखा भी पता नहीं थी, बस वही केवल शेष रह जाता है। साधक जब खो जाता है तभी सिद्धत्व उपलब्ध हो जाता है।
यह खोज बड़ी अनूठी है! यहां खोना ही पाने का मार्ग है। खोज में अगर तुमने अपने को बचाया, तो तुम भटकते ही रहोगे, पा न सकोगे।
संसार की सब चीजें तुमने अपने में भर लीं, यह परमात्मा की कमी खटकती है। अहंकार को चुनौती लगती है कि अगर किसी ने परमात्मा को कभी पाया है तो मैं भी पाकर रहूंगा। जिसने परमात्मा को चुनौती की तरह समझा और जीवन की अन्य महत्त्वाकांक्षाओं में एक महत्त्वाकांक्षा बनाया, वह खाली हाथ ही रहेगा।
पहली और आखिरी बात खयाल रखने जैसी है कि तुम अपने को मिटाने में लगना -- वही परमात्मा की खोज है। परमात्मा को खोजने की फिक्र ही छोड़ दो। वह तो मिला ही हुआ है; तुम सिर्फ अपने को मिटा लो। तुम्हारा खाली हो जाना ही तुम्हारी पात्रता है। तुम्हारा भरा होना ही तुम्हारी अपात्रता है।

संसारी और सन्यासी में फर्क़: मनोदशा

जीवन वही है संसारी का भी, संन्यासी का भी, मनःस्थिति भिन्न है। वही सब घटेगा जो घट रहा है। वही दूकान चलेगी, वही पत्नी होगी, वही बेटे होंगे, वही पति होगा, लेकिन संन्यासी की मनःस्थिति और है। वह जिंदगी को किन्हीं और दृष्टिकोणों से देखने की कोशिश कर रहा है। संसारी की मनःस्थिति और है।
संसार और संन्यास मनःस्थितियां हैं, मेंटल एटीटयूड्स हैं। इसलिए परिस्थितियों से भागने की कोई भी जरूरत नहीं है। परिस्थितियों को बदलने की कोई भी जरूरत नहीं है। और बड़े आश्चर्य की बात है कि जब मनःस्थिति बदलती है तो परिस्थिति वही नहीं रह जाती। क्योंकि परिस्थिति वैसी ही दिखाई पड़ने लगती है जैसी मनःस्थिति होती है।
जो आदमी संसार छोड़कर, भागकर संन्यासी हो रहा है, वह भी अभी संसारी है। क्योंकि उसका अभी विश्वास परिस्थिति पर है। वह भी सोचता है, परिस्थिति बदल लूंगा तो सब बदल जाएगा। वह अभी संसारी है।
संन्यासी वह है, जो कहता है कि मनःस्थिति बदलेगी तो सब बदल जाएगा। मनःस्थिति बदलेगी, सब बदल जाएगा, ऐसा जिसका भरोसा है, ऐसी जिसकी समझ है, वह आदमी संन्यासी है।

In the Hindu mind there is a fear that semen energy is great energy -- even if a single drop is lost, you are lost. This is a very constipatory attitude -- hoard it! Nothing is lost! You are such a dynamic force, you go on creating that energy every day. Nothing is lost.
The Hindu mind is too much obsessed with VEERYA -- with semen energy. Not a single drop should be lost! They are continuously afraid.
So if at all they make love, then they feel very much frustrated, very much depressed, because they start thinking so much energy is lost.
NOTHING is lost. You don't have a dead quota of energy; you are a dynamo -- you create energy, you create it EVERY day.
In fact, THE MORE YOU USE IT, THE MORE YOU HAVE IT......
USE ALL THAT HAS BEEN GIVEN TO YOU BY GOD and you will have MORE of it!

Three Possibilities: Meditation, Love, Craziness

There are three possibilities: one, meditation; second, love; third, one can just be crazy - no question of choice, no question of deliberately going on a certain path, forcing yourself on a certain path....

If there is no question for you and you can enjoy meditation without ever being worried about love, then that is your path. If you can enjoy love without ever being dragged by meditation, distracted by meditation, that is your path. If you find yourself in a deep synthesis, that both are happening, then that is your path.

My whole effort here is to help you to be your natural self. Any imposition is a violation. Rejoice in being whatsoever you are. There is no goal for you, no path for you. Rejoicing is the goal, rejoicing is the path.

Sex Education For Small Children

Truth is truth, and nobody should be debarred from it.
Just because children are small, do they have to be fed on lies?
Is truth only for grown-ups?
Does that mean truth is dangerous for the delicate consciousness of the child?
Truth is never dangerous, untruth is dangerous. And if you tell an untruth to the grown-up he may be able to defend himself; it can be forgiven.
But never tell an untruth to the child, because he is so helpless, so indefensible. He depends so much on you, he trusts so much in you – don’t betray him.
This is betraying!
Telling any lie means you have betrayed the child.
And finally you will be in trouble.
Sooner or later, the child will discover that you have been telling lies.
That very day, all trust in you will disappear.
If young people start rebelling against the parents, the responsibility is not theirs, the responsibility is of the parents.
They have been telling so many lies; and now, by and by, the children start
discovering that they were ALL lies.
And if you have been telling so many lies, even the truth that you have told them becomes suspicious.
And one thing is certain, they lose trust in you. You have betrayed them, you have deceived them: you become ugly in their consciousness.
Their impression of you is no good any more. In fact they will never be able to trust anybody.
What is wrong?
Sex is a simple fact: tell it the way it is.
And children are very very perceptive – even if you don’t tell them they will discover it on their own. They are very curious people.
Carl was assigned to write a composition entitled, ”Where I came from.” When he returned home from school, he entered the kitchen where his mother was preparing dinner.
”Where did I come from, Mama?” he asked.
”The stork brought you.”
”And where did Daddy come from?”
”The stork brought him, too.”
”And what about Grandpa?”
”Why, the stork brought him too, darling.”
Carl very carefully made notes on what Mama had told him, and the next day he handed in the following composition:
”According to my calculations, there hasn’t been a natural birth in my family for the past three generations.”
Children are very perceptive; they go on watching, they go on seeing what foolishness you are telling them.
And how long can you deceive them?
Life is there, and life is sexual.
And they are watching life: they will see animals making love, they will see birds making love.
And you may go on believing that they have never seen you making love – you can go on believing it, but children know that their parents make love.
In the beginning they may think they are fighting or something, but sooner or later they discover that something is going on behind their backs.
Why create these suspicions and doubts? Why not be true?
Truth is always good, truth is always divine. Let them know things as they are.
Children are very perceptive; they go on watching, they go on seeing what foolishness you are telling them.
And how long can you deceive them?
Life is there, and life is sexual.
And they are watching life: they will see animals making love, they will see birds making love.
And you may go on believing that they have never seen you making love – you can go on believing it, but children know that their parents make love.

And it will create a great trust in you: you never deceived them.
Sex education is one of the fundamental causes of the rift between the generations.
They day the child discovers that his parents have been deceiving him, he loses all roots in trust.
That is the most devastating shock you can give to that delicate system.
Go on telling the truth as it is, and don’t try to philosophize about it and don’t go on round and round.
Tell it the way it is.
Why is there so much fear about it in you? Because your parents did not tell YOU.
So you feel a little shaky, nervous, afraid, as if you are moving in some dangerous territory.
Be very simple, direct.
And whenever a child enquires about anything, if you know about it, tell it.

When God created the world by Osho

A small story....
It is just a story, but full of meaning and juice.
When God created the world, he used to live in the world.
But he became tired, because from the morning on, everybody would start coming with complaints: somebody has no child, somebody’s child is sick, somebody’s child has died; somebody has fallen in love but the parents are not allowing him to marry the woman... and millions are the problems.
And just one poor God! And those who
could not get him in the day would torture him in the night – he was unable even to sleep.
Finally, he asked his advisor, ”What should I do? These people will kill me!
They don’t allow me rest, and they bring a thousand and one problems.
They should solve those problems.
I have given them every capacity, intelligence, to solve all their problems but they want to throw all responsibility on me, thinking that ‘Why should we bother?
Why did you create us in the first place?
If you created us then take care of our problems.”’
The advisor whispered in his ear, ”There is a place where these people will never go.”
He said, ”Just show it to me.”
And he said, ”You just hide inside these people themselves.
They will go searching for you all over the world but they will never go inside.
You can rest, relax.”
And he is resting and relaxing there.

मनुष्य परतन्त्र ही जन्मता है

गहरे देखने पर पता चलता है कि मनुष्य परतंत्रता में ही पैदा होता है। जो स्वतंत्र है, वह तो फिर पैदा होता ही नहीं; उसका तो फिर आवागमन नहीं होता। जो बंधा है, वही संसार में आता है। बंधन ही संसार में लाता है।
इसलिए बच्चे भी परतंत्रता में ही पैदा होते हैं; यद्यपि बच्चे बेहोश हैं और उन्हें अपनी परतंत्रता का पता लगते - लगते समय बीत जाएगा।
और बहुत थोड़े - से लोग ही जान पाते हैं कि वे परतंत्र हैं। अधिक लोग तो ऐसे ही जी लेते हैं जैसे वे स्वतंत्र थे। परतंत्र ही मरते हैं, परतंत्र ही पैदा हुए थे: और परतंत्रता का चाक चलता ही रहता है। परतंत्रता राजनैतिक हो तो मोड़ देना बहुत आसान है।
बाहर के जगत में तो रोज क्रांति की जरूरत रहेगी; और क्रांति कभी होगी नहीं: असली परतंत्रता भीतरी है; न राजनीतिक है, न आर्थिक है, न सामाजिक है। असली परतंत्रता आध्यात्मिक है।
तुम स्वतंत्र होने को तैयार ही नहीं हो, स्वतंत्र होने की क्षमता और साहस ही तुममें नहीं है।
और यह पता ही न चले कि हम परतंत्र हैं, तो स्वतंत्रता का उपाय कैसा? फिर तुम परतंत्र लोगों की भीड़ में ही जीते हो। वहां कौन तुमसे कहेगा? वे सभी कारागृह के कैदी हैं। उनमें से किसी ने भी स्वतंत्रता को चखा नहीं।
स्वतंत्र होने के लिए पहले तो प्रशिक्षण चाहिये - पिंजरे के भीतर ही, पहले तो कोई सिखानेवाला चाहिए, जो पंखों का बल लौटा दे, जो भीतर की आत्मा को आश्वस्त कर दे; इसके पहले कि तुम उड़ो खुले आकाश में, कोई चाहिए जो तुम्हें खुले आकाश में उड़ने की योग्यता दे दे। गुरु का वही अर्थ और प्रयोजन है।
गुरु का अर्थ है: कारागृह में तुम्हें कोई मिल जाए, जिसने स्वतंत्रता का स्वाद चखा है। कारागृह के बाहर तो बहुत लोग हैं, जिन्हें स्वतंत्रता का स्वाद है; लेकिन वे कारागृह के बाहर हैं, उनसे तुम्हारा संबंध न हो सकेगा।

प्रेम सबसे बड़ा रहस्य है

प्रेम एक रहस्य है। रहस्यों का रहस्य!
प्रेम से ही बना है अस्तित्व और प्रेम से ही समझ में आता है। प्रेम से ही हम उतरे हैं जगत् में और प्रेम की सीढ़ी से ही हम जगत् के पार जा सकते हैं। प्रेम को जिसने समझा उसने परमात्मा को समझा। और जो प्रेम से वंचित रहा वह परमात्मा की लाख बात करे, बात ही रहेगी, परमात्मा उसके अनुभव में न आ सकेगा। प्रेम परमात्मा को अनुभव करने का द्वार है। प्रेम आँख है।
अगर प्रेम भीतर हो तो आत्मा प्रकाशित हो उठती है।
रूह ऐसी रोशनी से भर जाती है, अगर प्रेम हो, कि आंखें उस रोशनी को देखें तो तिलमिला जाएं, देख न पाएं, देखना चाहें तो देख न पाएं। सूरज का प्रकाश उसके सामने फीका है। चांदतारे टिमटिमाते दीए हैं -- उसके सामने, उसके मुकाबले, उसकी तुलना में।
जिसने प्रेम जाना उसने पहली दफा रोशनी जानी। और जिसने प्रेम नहीं जाना उसने जीवन में सिर्फ अंधकार जाना, अंधेरी रात जानी, अमावस जानी, उसकी पूर्णिमा से पहचान नहीं हुई।
संस्कृतियां, सभ्‍यताएं प्रेम के समक्ष कुछ भी नहीं। प्रेम सबसे बुलंद है -- धर्म, मजहब, संस्कार, रीति - रिवाज, परंपराएं, रूढ़ियां। इन सबसे बहुत पार है। किन्हीं रीति - रिवाजों में नहीं समाता। किन्हीं सभ्‍यताओं में सीमित नहीं होता। किन्हीं संस्कृतियों में आबद्ध नहीं है।
प्रेम मुक्ति है -- मुक्त आकाश है।
उस प्रेम को खोजो, जो हिंदू के पार है, मुसलमान के पार है, कुरान के ऊपर जाता है, गीताएं जहां से नीचे अंधेरी खाइयां हो जाती हैं। उन शिखरों को तलाशो। उन्हीं शिखरों पर परमात्मा का निवास है।

ईश्वर की छाती के घाव हैं मनुष्य

         एक झूठी कहानी है। मैंने सुना है कि ईश्वर दूसरे महायुद्ध के बाद बहुत परेशान हो गया। ईश्वर तो तभी से परेशान है, जब से उसने आदमी को बनाया। जब तक आदमी नहीं था, बड़ी शांति थी दुनिया में। जब से आदमी को बनाया, तब से ईश्वर बहुत परेशान है।
सुना तो मैंने यह है कि तबसे वह ठीक से सो नहीं सका बिना नींद की दवा लिए। सो भी नहीं सकता। आदमी सोने दे तब न! आदमी खुद न सोता है, न किसी और को सोने देता दे। और इतने आदमी है कि ईश्वर को सोने कैसे देंगे! इसलिए आदमी को बनाने के बाद ईश्वर ने फिर और कुछ नहीं बनाया। बनाने का काम ही बंद कर दिया। इतना घबड़ा गया होगा कि बस अब क्षमा चाहते हैं, अब आगे बनाना भी ठीक नहीं। दूसरे महायुद्ध के बाद वह घबड़ा गया होगा।
ऐसे तो इतने युद्ध हुए कि ईश्वर की छाती पर कितने घाव पड़े होंगे कि कहना मुश्किल है। सबसे मजा तो यह है कि हर घाव पहुंचाने वाला ईश्वर की प्रार्थना करके ही घाव पहुंचाता है। और मजा तो यह है कि हर युद्ध करने वाला ईश्वर से प्रार्थना करता है कि हमें विजेता बनाना। चर्चों में घंटियां बजाई जाती हैं, मंदिरों में प्रार्थनायें की जाती हैं,युद्धों में जीतने के लिए! पोप आशीर्वाद देते हैं, युद्धों में जीतने, के लिए! ईश्वर की छाती पर जो घाव लगते होंगे, उन घावों का हिसाब लगाना मुश्किल है।
तीन हजार साल के इतिहास में पंद्रह हजार युद्ध और आगे का पीछे का इतिहास तो पता नहीं है। हम यह मान नहीं सकते कि उसके पहले आदमी नहीं लड़ता रहा होगा। लड़ता ही रहा होगा। जब तीन हजार वर्षों में पंद्रह हजार युद्ध करता है आदमी, प्रति वर्ष पांच युद्ध करता है तो ऐसा मानना बहुत मुश्किल है कि वह शांत रहा होगा। इतना ही है कि उसके पहले का इतिहास हमें शात नहीं। दूसरे महायुद्ध के बाद ईश्वर घबड़ा गया। क्योंकि पहले महायुद्ध में साढ़े तीन करोड़ लोगों की हत्या हुई! दूसरे महायुद्ध में हत्या की संख्या साढ़े सात करोड़ पहुंच गई। क्या हो गया आदमी को?

आस्तिक होने के लिए नास्तिक होना अनिवार्य

अभागे हैं वे जिन्होंने कभी नास्तिकता नहीं चखी, क्योंकि वे आस्तिकता का स्वाद न समझ पाएंगे।
इस जगत के बड़े से बड़े दुर्भाग्यों में से एक है कि हम प्रत्येक बच्चे को नास्तिक बनने के पहले आस्तिक बना देते हैं। वह आस्तिकता झूठी होती है, उसमें कुछ प्राण नहीं होते। वह निर्जीव होती है।
अभी बच्चे में जिज्ञासा भी नहीं जगी, अभी प्रश्न भी नहीं उठा, और हमने उधार दे दिए! बीमारी ही नहीं है, और तुमने इलाज शुरू कर दिया! तुम दवा पिलाने लगे! तुम्हारी दवा जहर बन जाएगी।
और आस्तिकता जहर बन गई है। सारी पृथ्वी आस्तिकता से पीडि़त है, नास्तिकता से नहीं। और आदमी कुछ ऐसा मूढ़ है कि एक अति से दूसरी अति पर जाने में उसे देर नहीं लगती। रूस, चीन और दूसरे कम्युनिस्ट देश दूसरी अति पर चले गए। बच्चा पैदा हुआ, और वे उसे नास्तिकता सिखाने लगते हैं।
सिखाई नास्तिकता उतनी ही थोथी होगी, जितनी सिखाई आस्तिकता।
जीवन उधार नहीं जीया जा सकता। जीवन प्रामाणिक होना चाहिए। हमें इतना धैर्य रखना चाहिए कि बच्चे पर जब जिज्ञासा अपने आप अवतरित होगी, जब वह पूछेगा, तो हम साथ देंगे। और साथ भी बहुत सोच कर देना।
साथ देने का अर्थ नहीं है कि वह पूछे और तुम उत्तर देना। प्रश्न उसका, उत्तर तुम्हारा, मेल कैसे होगा? प्रश्न उसका तो उत्तर भी उसका ही होना चाहिए, तभी तृप्ति होगी, तभी संतोष होगा, तभी बोध होगा, बुद्धत्व होगा।
तो जब बच्चे को जिज्ञासा जगे, प्रश्न उठें, संदेह के झंझावात आएं, तब माता को, पिता को, परिवार को, प्रियजनों को, शिक्षकों को सहयोग देना चाहिए–प्रश्नों के निखारने का, निखारने में, प्रश्नों पर धार रखने में। प्रश्नों पर उत्तर नहीं थोपने हैं, प्रश्नों को त्वरा देनी है, तीव्रता देनी है। प्रश्नों को ऐसी प्रगाढ़ता देनी है कि जब तक व्यक्ति उनके उत्तर स्वयं न खोज ले, चैन न पाए, विश्राम न पाए।
मेरी अपनी सूझ यही है कि जो नास्तिक होने की हिम्मत रखता है, वही कभी संन्यासी भी हो सकता है।

Every Religion Every Man is Afraid of Woman

EVERY RELIGION, EVERY MAN IS AFRAID OF WOMAN

Confucius -- and the whole of China is influenced by Confucius' thinking ---- believes that there is no soul in a woman, she is only body. Killing a woman is not a murder. So for thousands of years in China, if somebody killed his own wife it was not a crime. It was just as if you want to destroy your chair, your furniture, or anything that belongs to you; you possess it, it is yours -- exactly as the woman is yours. There was no law in China to prevent a husband from killing his wife. And there was no punishment either, because the woman was a thing, not a being.
And Confucius is thought to be one of the wisest men in the world. Now, what kind of wisdom is this? He is the founder of Confucianism, but all that Confucius has done is to confuse the human mind and nothing else.
Every religion is afraid of women, because every religion is afraid of sex. Every religion is repressive of sex, against sex. Naturally, it is a byproduct that every religion has to be against the woman, the woman has to be condemned. If you condemn sex you are bound to condemn the woman. If you respect the woman -- it is a corollary -- you will respect sex also, as a natural thing.

राजनीति क्या है ?

राजनीति नीति नहीं है, अनीति है। न मालूम किन बेईमानों ने उसे राजनीति का नाम दे दिया! नीति तो उसमें कुछ भी नहीं है। राजनीति है : शुद्ध बेईमानी की कला।
मुल्ला नसरुद्दीन के बेटे ने उससे पूछा कि ‘पापा, आप बड़े राजनीति के खेल खेलते हैं; राजनीति क्या है?’ तो उसने कहा कि ‘शब्दों में कहना कठिन है, यह बड़ी रहस्यमय बात है। मगर अनुभव से तुझे समझा सकता हूँ।' उसने कहा : ‘समझाइए।'
मुल्ला ने बेटे को कहा : 'चढ़ सीढ़ी पर।' सीढ़ी लगी थी दीवाल से, तो बेटा चढ़ गया।
जब ऊपर के सोपान पर पहूंच गया, तो नसरुद्दीन ने कहा : ‘कुद जा, मैं सम्हाल लूंगा।'
जरा झिझका। सिढ़ी ऊंची थी; कूदे और पिता के हाथ से छूट जाए, गिर जाए, तो हाथ-पैर टूट जायेंगे।
नसरुद्दीन ने कहा : ‘अरे अपने बाप पर भरोसा नहीं करता! कूद जा, कूद जा बेटा।'
जब बार -बार कहा, तो बेटा कूद गया। नसरुद्दीन हट कर खड़ा हो गया। दानों घूटने छिल गये; नाक से खून गिरने लगा।
बेटे ने कहा कि ‘मतलब!’
तो नसरुद्दीन ने कहा: ‘यह राजनीति है बेटा; अपने बाप पर भी भरोसा न करना। भूल करके भी किसी पर भरोसा न करना - यह पहला पाठ।'
राजनीति बड़ी चालबाज हिंसा है। कहीं खून दिखाई नहीं पड़ता - और खून हो जाते हैं। हाथ नहीं रंगते - और हत्यायें हो जाती हैं।
दुनिया में एक और तरह के शासन की जरूरत है। राजनेता का नहीं -- विशेषज्ञ का; राजनेता का नहीं -- वैतानिक का; राजनेता का नहीं -- बुद्धिमत्ता का।
और तब दुनिया एक और तरह की दुनिया होगी।

What kind of con man are you?

One very beautiful man took sannyas a few months ago.
He has been a con man. The moment I
looked into his eyes he became afraid of me.
I said, ”What kind of con man are you?
Now I am going to con you.” I gave him a few groups – he escaped without those groups.
He became so frightened!
For months nothing was heard about him.
Then he sent his lawyer to watch here –
A con man is a con man.
To find out ”What is really happening here?
Is it okay to get into things?”
The lawyer came here. He watched. He must have reported that ”There is nothing to fear, you can go.” He gathered courage and came back.
And I told him, ”You are a coward. What kind of con man have you been? And this time don’t try to escape.” And I gave him a few groups again – and he disappeared!
Now I have received a letter from Singapore. He says, ”Osho, I am reading your books here and listening to your tapes, but I became so much afraid because you have given me these groups again –
And I will have to expose ALL the rubbish that I am carrying within myself. I will have to expose my whole being. I will have to be nude and true and authentic, and that frightens me.
But I will come...
I am reading, I am listening, I am gathering courage again, and I will come.”
It happens to many people: I give them groups; one day, two days, and they escape from the group.
It becomes too much.
What fear arises?
The fear of exposure.
Not that they will be exposed to others: The fear basically is that ”I will be exposed to myself,” that ”I will have to see what I have been hiding all along.”
And once you have known it, it will be impossible to hide it again.
That’s why before I tell you to meditate, I send you into Primal Therapy, into Encounter – I send you into different groups.
So that, the first thing: your cover is taken away; you are left naked, spiritually naked.
Then meditation becomes easier, because meditation is nothing but to be with yourself in your totality.

You have been harassed and tortured all your life

Just this evening, Nirvano was telling me, ”You have been harassed and tortured all your life.
Why don’t You stop speaking?”
I can understand, when I am harassed and tortured, and it has been going on for years continually....
Just today I have received another summons.
Somebody in Kanpur has filed a case against me; his religious feeling is hurt.
It seems to be the strangest religious feeling Seems to be so weak....
In India we have a very beautiful plant with very small leaves, but which is a real coward – its name is Chhuimui – because if you touch it, all the leaves immediately close; you touch one leaf and all the leaves of the bush immediately start closing up.
I have never come across another plant who is so cowardly. These so-called religious people are just Chhuimui.
If your religion is so weak that any argument against it hurts you, then it is not worth remaining in that religion.
Change that religion: it is your sickness, it is your weakness, it is your impotence.
Whatever I am saying – if you are just a little bit intelligent – either agree with me or disagree with me, but why should you get hurt and run immediately to the court...?
I have been asked by my friends, disciples, thousands of times, ”Why do You
unnecessarily get into trouble?”
I am not a teacher – it is not my profession.
I am a master – it is my very soul.
And if I stop speaking the truth, it will be committing suicide: What will be the point for me of living any more, even for a single second?
Because as far as I am concerned, I am fulfilled – I am not living for myself.
And I was surprised that since I have started living for those who are thirsty for truth, who are thirsty for love, I have found a life that is not mine; now it belongs to existence.
In fact, I am receiving all these summons on behalf of God, because these idiots cannot find God and his address – only I am left.
But it does not disturb me; it simply makes me feel sad and compassionate for these people, because they think they are religious.
They don’t know even the ABC of religion.
If somebody is hurt in Kanpur, rather than going to the court he should come here,
he should expose his wound that has been hurt.
And the way I know how to hurt people, I know how to heal.
The court is not going to help.
The court knows nothing of healing the spirit of people. Hundreds of cases... and finally the court has to dismiss them, because I am simply stating the facts which are in your own scriptures.
If you are really hurt, burn those scriptures, because they are hurting you.
You go on printing all kinds of nonsense in your scriptures, and distributing them.
If I indicate that your scriptures are full of rubbish, and if you are really a religious man, either you will have an argument, sharper, higher, deeper than my argument... quash my argument, or I am going to quash all your arguments.
And the courts are not going to help, for the simple reason that your scriptures are stating the fact.
I have never spoken against any religion without solid evidence.
If you are hurt, that simply means you were making castles in sand – just a little breeze and your castle disappears.
And rather than thinking that you were idiotic – castles are not made in the sand, out of sand – you feel hurt because your castle has been destroyed.
Send a summons to the breeze, ”This breeze has hurt my feelings very much.” Perhaps it was not a castle, it was a temple....
Your religious feelings are hurt, but I cannot stop speaking – for the simple reason that it is not me who is speaking.
I am not a teacher. I have allowed the hidden secrets of life to speak through me, to speak through my eyes, to speak through my hands.
I have offered everything to existence.
Now, only existence can stop me from speaking.

If They Had Made the World

There are people who go on thinking that if THEY had made the world it would have been a better world.
If they had made the world they would have done this and they would have done that.
There would have been no disease, there would have been no death, there would have been no ugliness,there would have been no stupidity.
And it looks so logical: yes, if a world is there where no disease exists, how beautiful it will be!
But do you know? – if there is no disease, there will be no health either.
Do you know? – if there is no ugliness, there will be no beauty either.
Do you know? – if there are no thorns, there will be no flowers either.
Do you know? – if there is no death, there will be no life either. You cannot have a life
without death. And if you could have a life without death it would be utterly boring; there would be no way to get rid of it.
A story is told of Alexander the Great when he came to the East. He had heard that in the desert there was a certain cave he was going to pass where there was a small pond of nectar.
If you drank that nectar you would become immortal.
And the story is beautiful. Alexander reached there and entered the cave.
He was so tremendously happy – just think of the happiness of you had been in his
place!
The nectar was there: just a moment more and he would be immortal. He cupped his hands, and just as he was going to drink,
a crow who was sitting on the rock said, ”Wait, just a minute!”
Alexander was surprised – a crow speaking? He asked, ”What do you want to say?”
The crow said, ”Just one thing, that’s why I am sitting here. I have drunk from this pool: now I am here for millions of years. I want to die.
The only idea that persists in me, twenty-four hours, is that of death. I want to get rid of this rotten body, but I cannot. I have tried but nothing succeeds. I have taken poison but it won’t do. I have fallen from the mountains, it won’t do. I have entered into fire, it won’t burn.
Now there is no way to die – and I am tired.
”Just think: for millions of years, I have to go on doing the same repetitive nonsense every day. And there is no hope even in the future.
I will never be able to die, I cannot commit suicide, and I am tired of life!
So now this is my mission: I sit here to
prevent other people.”
And it is said that Alexander thought for a moment, dropped the idea of drinking the nectar and rushed out of the cave – afraid that he might be tempted to drink it.
Without death, life would be an impossibly unbearable burden.
Death relieves. And it is because of disease that you have the feeling of health.
It is because of the dark night that the morning looks so beautiful.
Existence is dual, and existence is imperfect.
But it is because of imperfection that there is growth.
Just think, if everybody was perfect then there would be no growth.

What should I do to become important

This is the question every child asks in the beginning: ”What should I do to become important, to be somebody special in the world?”
And there are only a few ways: either have money, more than others have, and you will be special; or have more power, political power, than others have, and you will be special; or have more knowledge than others have and you will be special.
Or, if you cannot do anything else then at least renounce everything and become a great mahatma.
But do something!
Be special!
The inferiority complex inside goes on pulling and manipulating you to do something so that you can stand out, you can be outstanding, so people know who you are.
You can have money. It is not difficult – many stupid people have money.
You can become politically powerful, not a problem – only stupid people become politically powerful.
You can gather knowledge: so many stupid people have so many degrees and scholarships, names, fame.
It is not difficult at all!
But deep down you will remain the same: unaltered.
This is not the way to transform your being.
You can have AS mush knowledge as possible, but how is it going to make you more knowing?
Maybe others will think you know so much, but you, deep down, will know perfectly well: ”This is only in the memory.
My being has remained untouched by it.”

WHY ARE YOU SO MUCH AGAINST RITUALS AND RULES?

BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT RELIGION, and they cannot be religion.
I am against rituals, but that does not mean that a religious person cannot go into a ritual.
But when a religious person goes into a ritual, it is not a ritual at all. His heart is in it; then his words have wings.
So remember it: I am against the ritual when there is no heart in it. Then it is a ritual!
But if there is a heart... just remember those three mystics, those three Russian mystics, praying to God: ”You are three, we are three – have mercy on us!” This too is a ritual, a simple one, of their own invention; this too is a prayer – but their heart was in it.
A famous story about Moses:
He was passing through a forest.
He saw a man praying. But the man who was praying was saying such absurd things that he could not go further. He had to stop the man.
What he was saying was profane, sacrilegious. He was saying to God: ”God, you must be feeling sometimes very alone – I can come and be always with you like a shadow. You can depend on me You need not be alone.
Why suffer loneliness when I am here? And I am not a useless person either – I can be of much use, I can be handy. I will give you a good bath. I can massage too. I am a shepherd.
And I will take all the lice from your hair and your body...”
Lice? Moses could not believe his ears: ”What is he talking about?”
”And I will cook food for you. And do you know what? – everybody likes what I cook. It is delicious.
And I will prepare your bed and I will wash your clothes. And I can do a thousand and one things!
And when you are ill I will take care of you. I will be a mother to you, a wife to you, a servant, a slave – I can be Al kinds of things. Just give me a hint so I can come .”
Moses stopped him and said, ”Listen!
What kind of prayer is this?
What are you doing?
To whom are you talking? Lice in God’s hair? He needs a bath? And you are saying ’I will rub your body and make it absolutely clean’? Stop this nonsense.
This is not prayer. God will be offended by you.” Looking at Moses, the man fell at his feet. He said, ”I am sorry. I am an illiterate, ignorant man. I don’t know how to pray.
Please, you teach me!”
So Moses taught him the right way to pray, and he was very happy because he had put a man on the right track. Happy, puffed up in his ego, Moses went away.
And when he was alone in the forest, a very thundering voice came from the sky and said, ”Moses, I have sent you into the world to bring people to me, to bridge people with me, but not to take my lovers away from me.
And that’s exactly what you have done. That man is one of the MOST intimate to me.
Go back! Apologize.
Take your prayer back!
You have destroyed the whole beauty of his dialogue.
He is sincere. He is loving. His love is true. Whatsoever he was saying, he was saying from his heart.
It was not a ritual.
Now what you have given to him is just a ritual. He will repeat it but it will be only on the lips; it will not be out of his being.”
I am not against prayer, I am against the ritualistic prayer – BECAUSE IT IS NOT PRAYER, that’s why I am against it.
Don’t learn empty gestures.
Let your gestures be alive, spontaneous. Otherwise, deep down you know that this is a ritual, deep down you know that this is just a formality you are performing.
And if that is your feeling inside, what is the point of going into it?
But that’s what your rituals are. Deep down, you know that they are rituals.
You yourself don’t believe in them.
They have been taught to you, you have been conditioned for them. You go on repeating them mechanically, robot like. If you don’t repeat them, you feel something is missed; if you repeat them nothing is gained.
And there is no understanding behind them

How to Drop Misery by Osho

The moment you ask how to drop misery you know perfectly well you don’t want to drop it, because there is no reason.
If you don’t want to be miserable, it is so simple – don’t be miserable.
I simply decided.
And thirty-five years have passed; I have not been miserable – although the whole world is trying to make me miserable.
But they should remember: it is impossible. Once I have decided, I have decided.
As I was coming out of the American jails, the jailer said to me, ”Strange... people enter jail and they look very good. When they come out they look very bad.
But you are looking better!”
I said, ”Twelve days of complete rest, no problem, no disciples... no need of any security” – I was the most secure person inside. I told him, ”Even President Ronald Reagan is not so secure.
If you want him to be really secure, put him in jail! – absolute security!”
He said, ”I have never seen any man...
I am going to retire soon. In my whole life’s experience, you are the first man who has come out of the jail so happy.”
I said, ”I didn’t think it would be so soon; I was planning to rest a little more.”
But it was not only the jailer. My attorneys, as I came to them, said, ”What happened? You are looking far better.”
As I reached my residence, Vivek said, ”Why don’t you look so good here?”
I said, ”This is not a jail. I was practicing for twelve days because I know for certain if there is any hell – I’m going too!”
God is not going to tolerate me.
His priests are not tolerating me anywhere in the world.
Even if I somehow reach heaven, God is not going to allow me in. Perhaps they have already passed a resolution – ”This man is dangerous. If he comes this side, be alert!”
But they need not be worried,
I’m not going to their side.
